I love the kind of artfully undone, versatile makeup that can see me through any occasion in style, and can actually be applied without a thousand different tools and products, all in a reasonable amount of time. This kind of look also means I can get ready for the day, and then adapt what I’m wearing as the occasion requires. There’s no daytime occasion that isn’t perfect for neutral brown eyeshadow and a ladylike shade of pink lipstick. And there’s no nighttime occasion that isn’t perfect for slicking on red lipstick to transform that very same daytime look into something a little more special.

She had always wanted words

“She had always wanted words, she loved them, grew up on them. Words gave her clarity, brought reason, shape. Whereas I thought words bent emotions like sticks in water.”

It’s been about two months since I first opened “The English Patient.” In a masterstroke of stupidity, I picked up the book during final exam week of the fall quarter. Needless to say, I did much more reading than studying that week. Usually, I get the feeling of not being able to put a book down because the plot is exceptionally compelling, and drives me forward. This experience was different. “The English Patient” does have a compelling plot, but it accumulates slowly. Read more

I am a biologist, a medical humanist, a lover of literature, and an aspiring veterinarian. Boom! If I had to make a 5 second commercial for myself, that would be it. I’ve been doing a lot of thinking about myself lately, because I’ve just come to the end of the harrowing process that is applying to veterinary school. At least some of my hard work has paid off, because I was recently admitted to veterinary school. Read more
